Southern Expeditions is situated at the entrance of Dominical, 21 miles (35 km) from the town San Isidro del General on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, or 25 miles (40 km) South of Quepos.

We are a three hour drive on a good paved road from San José, through an incredible landscape, several micro climates, and varied flora.

The area has an average temperature of 83F (28¾C) and is green year round, with a dry season from November through April. During the rest of the year, the mornings are almost always sunny with warm rains many afternoons. The winter months are the best time of the year for nature lovers.  The rain brings everything to life.

Surrounding Area:

Dominical is a small ocean side village with tasty restaurants and a renowned surf break. Most evenings one or more of these restaurants will have music and dancing.  Locals from all over the area like to demonstrate their beloved meringue and salsa dances. Some smaller shops in the village offer necessities such as surf boards, beach towels, food and drinks, souvenirs and there is even a small ‘supermercado.’

The drive South of Dominical is one of the most beautiful section of road in Costa Rica. It was just recently paved and offers magnificent views of the Pacific with many small bays and secluded beaches.

San Isidro del General (45 minutes by car) is the fastest growing city in Central America and offers a wide variety of shops and restaurants. Outside of the central valley, San Isidro is the most important economic center in the country. Most every modern service can be found in San Isidro del General.

San Isidro also serves as a transportation hub, with frequent busses to Dominical and surrounding areas. Three busses each day ($ 1.25) go from Dominical to San Isidro (1.5 hours). They also run every hour to San José for $5. The ride takes about three hours along mountainous 135 kilometer road through high mountains (3.400 meters). There are also daily buses to Panama (David and Panama City) from San Isidro del General.
